FACTS.
There are about 70 to 100 fathers who commit suicide each and every year in Norway.
It is estimated that in Rogaland alone, (from a VERY reliable source), somewhere between
seven (7) and fifteen (15) fathers commit suicide EACH YEAR. This figure is given by Mr.
Agnar Mikarlsen, ex-vakt sjef, and member of F2F in Stavanger.
From his "on the job" experience during the period 1993 to 1996, he calculates
as follows :
- Every year X fathers contacted him for assistance with their problems
following a marriage break-up.
- Of these fathers, X minus 80 had normal and general problems for which
they sought advice and assistance. The problems being connected to:
a) Samvær Avtales.
b) Which Lawyer to use.
c) How to handle various situations.
d) How could F2F help them.
- However, the remaining fathers, X minus 20, had serious problems due to
the marriage break-up, some of the reasons being similar and yet different
for each father. There is always a "Thread" in these matters.
- On receiving a telephone call for help Mr. Mikarlsen would, dependent upon
the callers tone of voice, statements and general background story and call
for help, visit the "poor" father at his home. Sometimes this would be in
the middle of the night.
- Of these X minus 20, ca. 15 fathers were potential suicide cases, ie. the
father was thinking of committing suicide, had planned suicide, or had
attempted some form of suicide, or in the view of Mr. Mikarlsen and from his
experience, could commit suicide due to their precarious predicament and
general medical, mental and physical condition.
- In general he "witnessed", or was later informed by friends or relatives of the
dead father, every year six (6) to seven (7) suicides.
- The remaining fathers out of the original 15 whom he considered on the
"borderline": 7 to 8, he never received nor had any further contact. He therefore
can not document as to whether these fathers committed or did not commit suicide.
- Summary: - - In Mr. Mikarlsen's opinion he considers that an annual figure of
five (5) to ten (10) fathers die of the consequences of parental disputes in
Rogaland alone !!!!!.
Anybody can write a "Forsking Rapport" with Government money and come up with a "figure"
which the Government wants, or in other words, the Norwegian Government "ORDERS".
This DBase believes more in the 3 years experience of Mr. Mikarlsen than some "Pot Headed"
researcher comfortably sitting in a warm office just using the telephone.
This DBase would like to hear from others on this subject.
